I was originally diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of 14. I was trialled on many different drugs throughout my teenage years, but due to them either being too harmful, or my body becoming dependent on the particular drugs, i was always switched to something else. These new drugs only worked for about 3-6 months before i would have another relapse and would have to go back onto another course of prednisolone (which i have become dependent on). Due to this dependency, it takes me an average of 3-4 months to wean off prednisone. Due to having to be on this drug for so long, it effects my weight and bone density which i have to have tested regularly. As I reached the age of 22, the relapses were becoming more and more frequent, and happening about 1-2 weeks after weaning off prednisolone, which would then of course mean another course of the drug.
Being 22, i was extremely worried about the effects this was having on me, and also thinking about the future and the effects it would have on my children if i ever had to do a course while pregnant. I looked into natural remedies that people were having success with, coconut oil, aloe vera oil, syllium husks etc. All which helped but did not keep the illness at bay.I decided to try CBD oil after my most recent relapse about 2 months ago and have not touched prednisolone since!
